Bringing deliberate practice into university training

The study: A mixed-methods evaluation at the University of Bamberg: interviews with six students, and a pre/post survey of ten students around a deliberate practice workshop. (Article in German.)

What they found: Deliberate practice was integrated into two courses using a flipped classroom, individual learning goals, standardized practice scenarios and expert feedback. Students asked for more structure, more expert feedback, smaller groups and emotional support. The workshop improved attitudes toward deliberate practice but not factual knowledge about it.

Why it matters for practice: Practical lessons for programs adopting deliberate practice: it asks a lot of students, and they need guidance and support to make use of it.
